Chalaye demands early pre-season as he demonstrates by example the shape he does not want the Swans to get into

Pre season training is starting on Saturday 28th June 2008, details to be released soon, however there is a rumour circulating round the club that Dayo will be leading the charge up Cissbury ring this year. They have just built a Macdonalds up there.

Awards are given out as another season comes to an end

On the 11th May the Vipers and senior Storrington teams had a fun day which culminated in an all comers match which featured players from the front, 2nds and thirds as well as guest appearances from Nige Dyer and a few others. The evening was then given over to the Presentation evening where the honours for the first team were presented as follows:

Russell Penticost award: Sam Witherden
Top goal scorer: Craig Grantham

The reserve team of Alan Tucker and their awards will be put on here shortly as well as the youth teams.

Front side look to avenge ressies defeat at hands of Midhurst

The first team had no game this week but the ressies lost at Midhurst and Easbourne 2-1. The same opponents are the vistors to the Rec for the front sides final game of the season.

Witherden and Grantham shine as Swans dent Haven's promotion hopes

After Tuesday nights forgettable performance at Culver Road, the front side served up a real treat for the fans at the Rec on Saturday. They were on the right end of a 9 goal roller-coaster of a game. Sammy 'Pob' Witherden and Neil 'Linford' Grantham were the goalscorers. The U16's were not so fortunate as they lost their title deciding game just before hand. Nonetheless, an excellent showing by them this season which bodes extremely well for the Swans future.

Swans stay afloat!

Aaron Meehan scored his tenth goal of the season from the penalty spot to secure a 1-0 and double win over Seaford and ensure no squeaky bum time for the last 3 games. He also missed a second penalty which would have levelled him on goals with Neil Grantham who spent ¾ of the match resting before tonights big derby against old rivals Lancing.

Local derby looms

Saturday's defeat by Broadbridge Heath leaves the Swans front side in no uncertain terms of the task they face to remain in senior football for the 2008/09 season. They require a point from their remaining 4 league games, and quite frankly if they can't manage that then they do not deserve to play in division 2 next season. Elsewhere, more bad news as the ressies lose at home to Pagham.

Local Showdown Looms

Swans edged ever closer to their survival target with a gritty goalless draw at home to Littlehampton. Gary Elliott was in good form again, Aaron Meehan went closest to winning it for the home side. This sets up nicely this weekends derby at Broadbridge Heath, who will have to beat us to stand any chance of avoiding the drop. In the second half of the double header, high-flying Sidlesham edged out Tucks' men by the odd goal in 5.

No Charity For Swans

East Preston scored after 6 minutes and held onto the lead to run out winners in this Brighton Charity Cup match. James Rhodes who scored twice against the Swans in pre season made it a perverse hat trick after scoring early last night but the Swans could take a great deal of pride out of the game and into Saturday’s match V Littlehampton.

Derby win at last!

Dickie Ayres & Krissy Bridle score twice in the first half to secure a 2-0 first derby win for 5 years. This resulted in a very loud and glorious celebration akin to the one received recently by both the first and reserve teams this season and one definitely not enjoyed by the visitors and a Bank holiday Easter Monday derby for our reserves as well, fingers crossed for Tucks.

Another point bites the dust

The first team surrender all 3 points with 2 minutes to go on Saturday but are sent an unlikely reprieve by the same side that beat them 1-0. Lancing then lost at home for the first time in 8 to Wealden by the same margin and now are also in the relegation battle along with the Swans and BBH which promises to be a roller coaster of emotions especially with the visit of local derby opponents Steyning this Easter Saturday and both Lancing and BBH to play away from the Rec.

Tough month so far for Swans

March has proved to be rather barren for the front side with bottom club Pease Pottage leaving the Rec with all 3 points and nothing gained from a tough away trip to Siddlesham. See match reports for details on these two games. On the horizon, out of form Wealden are the next visitors to the Rec which is looking like a massive game for both teams as they try to clamber away from the Division 2 trap door.

Swans have to Grin and bear it

The front side lose by a solitary goal to league leaders East Grinstead at the Rec. The defeat adds even further significance to the upcoming visit of bottom club Pease Pottage. Pottage have improved considerably in recent weeks and will not be turning up to make up the numbers.
The II's did not have a game this week.

Having a giraffe at Arundel

Neil Alexander (AKA Craig Grantham / Giraffe), scored the opener as the front side topple 1st division Arundel at Mill Road. The victory signalled the end of the worst Cup record in senior football with the last victory in any cup competition for the Swans coming in 1927, which, incidentally is the same year James Ericson began his suspension. The reserves didn't fare quite so well as they lost 2-0 at home to Worthing United.

Hammond rocket not enough at Westfield

The front side go down 4-2 away at Westfield despite debut strikes from Frankie Vilk and Gav Hammond. The reserves fared even worse against Chichester, going down 4-0.

Frankie Goes To Storrington!

January 30th... The front side just miss out on all three points as they concede late on to draw with Mile Oak 2-2 at The Rec, goals coming courtesy of Sam Witherden and Adam Palmer. The reserves just miss out on a point away at Lancing on Thursday 24th. Chris Johnson pulls The Swans back level but a dubious penalty awarded against Matt Palmer gives Lancing all three points at Culver Road.

Off the field, Messrs Chalaye, Dyer and Searle have been dipping into the transfer market again by bringing in the Wick Striker, Frankie Vilk. Frankie arrives from Wick, via Slovakia, and provides the Swans with more firepower and competition up front. Former Storrington player, Asa Nicholson, scores for Wick in their 1-1 draw against Arundel at the weekend. Good luck to Asa from all at Storrington FC.

Highs and Lows

23rd January... The first team record a hard fought and long overdue 3-1 victory at home against Westfield. The home side take the lead through another Craig Grantham thunderbolt and cement the three points with a late brace from Manager come super-sub, Eammon Searle. On the flipside, The IIs go down 5-0 against a much strengthened Littlehampton team, although the scoreline flatters the home side.

Swans Feeling Down After Late Winner

13th January 2008... A late Craig Grantham goal was not enough to secure a point against Crawley Down at The Rec as the visitors grab a last gasp winner signalling three defeats on the bounce. The IIs go down 3-1 away against a good Chichester side.

2007 - The Review

As 2007 makes way for 2008, lets take a few minutes to review the year. The early part of 2007 saw the club slide into trouble in Division 2 as a dreadful run of form through the Spring saw relegation back to Intermediate football become a very real threat. When it mattered most though, the team did what it had to and a home win against Saltdean in the penultimate match meant it went to the last day of the season. As Nigel Dyer and Dave Kelly almost ripped each others heads off in the technical area, it was the Swans who wanted, not to mention needed, it more on the pitch and they beat Midhurst 3-1 to secure their senior status. The summer months were a period of change throughout the club. Russell Penticost departed as manager after five years that on the whole, saw the club progress. Storrington old boys Jon Chalaye and Eammon Searle came in and Nigel Dyer stepped up from the reserves to form a new management team. Alan Tucker hung up his boots to fill the reserve team managers role and 3rd teamers Steve Dalmon and James Peake took over as managers of the youth team. Off the field, Jez Scholes, a true club man, left the committee and Phil and Christine Goldring brought to an end years of service to the club as bar managers.

Back on the playing side, the 2007-08 pre-season saw several new faces arrive as well as some familiar ones moving on. The season started encouragingly with a 1-0 win at Mile Oak but things got tougher during Autumn as the fixtures weren't kind and the delay in returning the pitch to a fit state after summer work meant that a home match didn't take place until the end of October. Two of the clubs most loyal servants of recent years moved on. Rob Norris packed up football completely after over a decade in the Storrington first team whilst Dan Griffn moved back to Lancing after an often prolific five years as The Swans main man up front. Youngsters Aaron Meehan and Craig Grantham look more than capable of taking over in central midfield and up front respectively and both have found the net regularly during the first half of the season. Indeed, early season problems with scoring goals have now been overcome and if the management team can now tighten things up at the back as well, the prospects appear good for pulling away from the bottom third and looking for a top half finish.

The clubs drawn out negotiations with the Parish and District Councils over the proposed floodlights at The Recreation Ground finally ended with a positive outcome for the club. Matt Bridle's tireless efforts paid off when Horsham District Council granted permission and then the Parish Council finally came round to the clubs way of thinking and withdrew their resistance to the proposed lights. All that remains now is to get the required finance in place to pay for them and Storrington will be able to host its first ever flood lit match.

The ups and downs on the pitch were put into a stark perspective by the loss in 2007 of former manager and friend of the club, Russell Penticost who died unexpectedly of a heart attack in October. Russell had been The Swans manager as recently as the end of the 2006-07 season and his popularity throughout the Sussex football community could not have been better demonstrated by the tributes that poured in on County Football websites and the local press, and by the turnout at his funeral. Christmas cheer

29th December - The Swans managed to keep Dan Griffin quiet on his first return to The Rec as a Craig Grantham brace brought to an end a run of three draws and secured a first victory since mid October. It took Granthams tally to four goals in his last three outings and his partnership with Sam Witherden is starting to deliver after taking a while to bed in. The victory over Lancing maintained The Swans unbeaten run over Christmas, coming on the back of a 1-1 draw at Sidlesham and a 2-2 Boxing Day draw with Broadbridge Heath. Attention turns now to the local derby at Steyning on Wednesday night with Chalaye, Dyer and Searle looking to start 2008 on the right note and establish a little more consistency in the second half of the season. The goals are flowing now (10 in the last 5 matches) and if a few more shut outs can be achieved at the other end (10 goals also conceded in the last 5 matches), a top half finish is on the cards. A Time For Giving

18th December... The first team come from 2-0 to grab a hard-fought point away at Lingfield with goals from Sammy "Goal Machine" Witherden and two spot kicks from Aaron Meehan. With it being the time for giving, Tucker's men decided to give Forest a good hiding as they smash their opponents 7-1 with a hat-trick coming from our very own geriatric, Eamonn Searle. We look forward to being talked through them all individually at traing for the next 12 weeks!

Rain Stops Play...

10th December... Torrential rain over the weekend meant that there were no games played throughout the county. The First Team had to drive all the way to Westfield to find that out though!

It Wasn't Me Ref, I Swear!

4th December... It proves to be a game of two halves for the Swans at Midhurst... 2-0 up and cruising with first-half goals from Sammy Witherden and Asa Nicholson until Stewart Day is sent off for dissent. Storrington defend resolutely but are undone by a late penalty and eventually go down 3-2, with several players booked for swearing following SCFA's clamp down on abusive language. Tucker's men grab their second victory of the season against Wick to lift them up to 12th in the RSW. Goals coming from Kieran Limbachia, Jordan Gibbons and Greg Clark...

The Only Way Is Up!

26th November... The First XI turn in their worst performance of the season but manage to grab a point at home to Southwick - Sam Witherden scores his second goal in two games. Dan Wright sees red as the IIs go down 3-2 away at Worthing Utd. A defeat that sees them currently lying at the bottom of the Reserve Section (West) with just five points from 10 games...

Now There's a Good Point...

19th November... The First XI earn a hard-fought point at Wealden, drawing 2-2 in a gritty performance. The IIs go out of the Vernon Wentworth Cup as they go down 6-3 to Brighton Electricity who prove to be a real bogey team for the Swans in this competition...

Snot What The Doctor Ordered!

7th November... A flu epidemic appears to have swept through the football club... With no less than 19 of the first and second team squad missing both training sessions this week through illness, a request for postponement for this weekend's home fixture against Westfield has been handed to the Football League.

A Tribute From The Boys...

On behalf of all the players at Storrington Football Club, I would just like to wish Dan all the very best. Dan has been instrumental in Storrington's successes over the last five seasons and will be sorely missed. Not only did he notch up over 100 goals in that time, he also saved a few! Always smiling, a cracking attitude and one of the nicest blokes I know. He is also, unfortunately for us, a very good football player so we will not be looking forward to the two Lancing fixtures still to come this season! All the best, mate... [JB]

A Tribute From The Management...

When we took over at Storrington we had a clear vision of how we wanted to play football and Dan was an integral part of that vision.

Sometimes things don't pan out the way that you think they will and, if anything, Dan's previous success and record has probably hindered him as expectations were too high and unfair at times. As disappointed and sad as we are that Dan is leaving, from a football point of view he is going to a place where he is going to start most games as opposed to staying at a club where a starting place is less secure. This has happened to me, John and Nigel at some point in our careers and that's just how football works. This is a part where management can be unpleasant because the reality is, in our drive and desire to build something sustainable and successful at the club, it is inevitable that we need to bring in fresh young talent which will ultimately lead to players moving on. Players that are held in very high regard and with affection, players such as Dan. From a personal point of view, I found his humour, attitude and committment to be first class and a lot of younger players should look at Dan and at the career that he has had and should strive to reach the same standards.

Dan leaves the club in very good shape and, along with a few other players, is pretty much responsible for leaving us as a senior club and that is something the he should be very proud of. I do feel that he should have stayed and persevered a little longer as I have no doubts that he would have got back his No. 9 shirt and probably kept it. However, he has earnt the right over the years to make a footballing choice and we all respect that.

I hope that at some point in the future he returns to the club, in any capacity, and he will be welcomed with open arms by all of us. We look forward to seeing him when we play Lancing (and yes, I will be instructing everyone to wallop him!) and we wish him all the success that he deserves... [ES]

Baker Uses His Loaf

29th October…at long last the first home game of the campaign arrives, but ends in a rather unfortunate 2-1 reverse to Lingfield….both sides play some decent football on a surface which is still far from perfect, but Aaron Meehan’s stunning volleyed equaliser counts for nothing as Swans suffer the agony of going down to a last minute penalty…Better news from the second half of the double header, as Tucks’ men cruise to their first victory, and gain revenge for the defeat at Rustington 3 weeks ago…Luke Baker’s expertly taken hat-trick is the highlight of the 5-0 romp….and the upward trend continues on Sunday morning as the U18's also claim their maiden triumph...Sean Dowler, Dan Wright and Ashley Trigg are on target in a thrilling 3-2 home win over Lancing...Peakey & Steve take the side to Mile Oak on Wednesday night, kick off 7.30, get along there and give them a cheer!...[DG]

Palmer Drama

24th October...after last weeks unlikely goal-getters, it gets even sillier this week as Adam Palmer pops up to nod in his first since January 2004. Sadly it is only a consolation, as East Grinstead's superior finishing had already seen them to a 3-goal lead in an otherwise even game. Meanwhile, the Reserves are still searching for a first victory as high flying Midhurst cruise to a 4-1 win at a bumpy Rec. At least Dayo managed to mark his return from a month out with a strike against his old club. Normal service resumed in the III's, with Peakey's brace securing a 3-2 triumph for Joiner's men....[DG]

Beaumont In 'Goal' Shock

15th October….a sad week or so is brought to a close with a win to put the smiles back on Swans faces…our first nap hand for more than 18 months, and we needed it too as 3 flew in at the other end in an 8 goal thriller at Seaford…first goals in the blue shirt for both Ez and Mr Beaumont, silencing those who claimed Bill Beaumont was a more likely Swans goalscorer than Andy…at last the Rec is ready for action too, and the new improved surface is christened with 8 more goals….unfortunately, 7 of them are at the wrong end as Tucks severely depleted Reserves are dumped out of the Intermediate Cup at the first hurdle by Barnham……[DG]

Reinforcements

27th September...the three musketeers have acted to overcome Swans growing early season injury problems with a trio of signings....Griff's career between the sticks looks to be over for the time being as veteran stopper Paul House arrives as cover for the recovering Gary Elliott...Housey filled in on one occasion about this time last year, and there are few more reliable custodians in the county...versatile defender or midfielder Andy Cassell signs from Littlehampton, the 28 year old made his Swans bow at PPV, and added some steel that was perhaps missing since the departure of Rob Norris...teenage midfield prospect Asa Nicholson completes the set, he broke into the front side at Wick last term having been part of all-conquering U18 set up at Crabtree Park. He goes into the squad for tomorrow night's trip to Selsey.....[DG]

Staying Away

26th September...Friday night's RUR Cup tie will be played at Selsey (7.30 ko) despite being a home tie for the Swans. The Rec is still far from ready, so an important advantage is sacrificed....for the same reason, Swans face a tough October on the road with trips to Rustington, East Grinstead and Seaford in store, before the new scheduled return to the Rec on Oct 27th v Lingfield....[DG]

Give Pease A Chance

25th September....Swans are back on track, albeit after a late scare at basement boys Pease Pottage...what had been a gentle cruise after the dismissal of the home keeper suddenly became a narrow squeak, when the game's second mysterious penalty got PPV back to 2-1...Swans hung on for the points, but might reflect that they should have taken more of their numerous chances to wrap the game up earlier...Meehan and Grantham were the goalscorers...Elsewhere, lucky Duncan McLeod visited Sidlesham for the second week running, but came back happier this time as his goal earned the reserves a 1-1 draw....[DG]

R & R

18th Sept...unwelcome news from the weekend...Swans longest serving player, former captain Rob Norris, has decided to take a break from the game...the ginger dominator has struggled to overcome a string of injuries in recent months, and has come to the conclusion that popping the boots in the loft for a while is the best way to recharge his batteries...we all hope he returns sooner rather than later - the lad is only 30 for goodness sake, just approaching his peak in my book..... on the plus side, this has distracted my attention from the weekends on-field news, so i won't be mentioning that.[DG]

The Curse of The Cups

Swans' poor Cup run continues as they go out of the Division 2 Challenge Cup 2-0 at Westfield - it's the first time the First XI have failed to find the back of the net this term. Meanwhile, the IIs are on the wrong end of a rampant Southwick side and go down 6-3 in a goal-fest at Old Barn Way. [JB]

Ups and Downs

5th September... A tough first weekend of September for the Swans as the First XI go down 3-1 at Peacehaven, playing most of the second half with 10 men after Stewart Day gets The Swans' first red card of the season. Aaron Meehan scores the only Storrington goal. The IIs go down 2-1 at Wick. The Swans got back on track last night with a crucial and gritty 2-1 win at Southwick. Goals from Craig Grantham and an Aaron Meehan penalty secured the points as Dan Griffin ended up in goal for 70 minutes following a nasty rib injury to Gary Elliott. [JB]

Two Pens Are Better Than One

29th August...a fine display for 3/4 of the John O'Hara cup tie is undermined by a shambolic first 20 minutes...Div 1 Selsey cruised into a three goal lead during this spell, but after strikes from Norris and Meehan, the home side were grateful for a second soft penalty to seal a 4-2 victory...Sam Cronin excels on debut in goal for a depleted Swans side, who will take heart from this showing, and get another crack at the same opposition in a months time.... Same Old At New Haven

28th August - Swans suffer a first defeat at the Haven, traditionally a graveyard for the blues...this time an injury time Crawley Down winner snatches away a point that Dean Leaver's opportunist strike appeard to have earned....a six goal thriller kicks things off for Tucker's boys, as they share the spoils with Pagham's second string - a result that may prove to be an impressive one as the season progresses...Dan Wright, Dave Tidman and Chris Witten continue their excellent pre-season form with the goals...U18's enjoy an 8-1 romp at Peacehaven in their final friendly before the big kick off next week...keep an eye on the Youth Team page, where boss Peakey may be persuaded to provide updates....the front side go to Selsey tonight....... Swans have plenty in reserve

Sat 18th August - With the first team in the bizarre position of not having had a fixture scheduled on either of the first two Saturdays of the league season, the focus was on Alan Tuckers reserves' last warm up match before they kick off league action. They travelled to Forest with another youthful looking side - Chris Witton, Rob Norris and Ian Arthur excepted - and turned on the style. Facing much the same Forest side that had drawn 3-3 with The Swans first team a couple of weeks earlier, Tuckers team dominated the first half before going behind against the run of play early in the second half. They came back strongly though and goals from Dave Tidman and young Dan Wright put them 2-1 ahead. A more accurate reflection was put on the scoreline late on when Norris and substitute Joe Joiner both scored rare goals to send Tucker into his first competitive match as a manager high on confidence. Norris completed ninety minutes for the first time in pre-season and will now be keen to force his way back into the first team and Matt Coulthard made a one time only return to ease a centre half crisis and turned in an outstanding performance. Of equal note were the performances of a number of youth team players. Things are looking good for Peakey's youth team and Tucks reserves if they can maintain this standard. (RN)

Midweek Merriment

August 17th... Great news as the front side kick off the 2007/08 campaign with a 1-0 away win at Mile Oak - never an easy place to go and pick up points. Grainger continues his scoring run of 3 in 3 and a clean sheet for the defence. Full Match Report now available... Our next game is 10 days away against Crawley Down.

Tucker's men continued their rich vein of form with a 3-1 win against East Preston. Chris Witten and Luke Baker continue to link up well up front with a goal each. Warren Cheevey scores the other. Saturday sees the IIs take on Forest in their last friendly before the campaign kicks off on Saturday in a double-header at Pagham. [JB]

Flying The Nest

17th August...The revolving door hasn’t stopped twirling at the Rec this summer, and while we welcome all the recruits as we look forward with excitement to the new era, perhaps now is the time to bid a fond farewell to the Swans who have gone in the opposite direction – all of whom have made their mark during their time at the Rec.

ANDREW WILBY made 62 first team appearances spread over 4 seasons, and who could forget his only goal, a terrific strike at Ifield in Dec 2004. Wilbs is taking a break from football, with one eye on the London Marathon next spring. MARTIN GRAY also arrived in summer ’03, and though his Swans career was largely blighted by injury, Mit made a strong comeback last season and it is a shame to see him leave, to return to Lancing, his local club. Another with a return ticket to Culver Road is JON SIMPSON, who while never quite winning over his detractors among Swans supporters, was nevertheless a valuable team man during his 3 years at the Rec. His never-say-die approach was vital when times were tough. In 91 matches in a Swans shirt, he scored one less goal than Mr Wilby. RAMIN JARVAND signed last summer with quite a reputation, and though he sometimes found things difficult having been out with injury for so long, he never stopped trying and was popular among his team mates. His 12 league goals were crucial in keeping Swans in senior football. Ramin is likely to look for a club nearer to his Surrey home. Another young striker who had his moments was PAUL WALSHE, who memorably scored with his first touch in senior football at Southwick last August. Still the right side of 20, Walshey has time to come again, so remember the name (I particularly direct that last comment at my father, who for some reason always referred to him as Tommy). Finally, ANDY LONG has switched to Ifield to re-establish his successful link up with ex-Swans boss Russell Penticost. A thoroughly consistent performer in his 4 years here, Longy will no doubt be looking for a second Div 3 winners medal to go with the one he achieved at the Rec in 2004/05. He made 125 Swans appearances, scoring 4 goals. That’s at the right end.

New Faces (2)

14th August...On the eve of the big kick off, its time to introduce you to more of the players who will be proudly donning the blue shirts for the first time this season:

Craig Grantham – a tall 20 year old forward who enjoyed a decent season with Div 3 Loxwood last term. Possesses fine touch and awareness for a young lad, and looks every inch a long-term successor for Griff in the number 9 shirt. There have been signs in the friendlies, however, that perhaps the two could establish an effective partnership for now.

Grainger – has come from nowhere to look the sharpest of all the front men who have played in the warm up games, with 2 fine goals capping two good cameo displays. Nobody seems to know where he’s played before, how old he is or whether Grainger is his first or second name. Maybe he only has one, like Madonna.

Neil Alexander – affectionately known as Giraffe (you’ll understand when you see him play), 25 year old Neil is a terrific all round athlete with the ability to play in a number of positions. Central midfield probably gives him the best possible scope to unleash his range of accurate long passes to himself. An entertaining character, sadly he may be unavailable for midweek games as he lives in Bournemouth – poor attitude.

In addition to these, forward Dave Tidman, midfield man and incomprehensible Scot Duncan McLeod and teenage winger Matt Allen have emerged from the lower XI’s to impress in the first team during the friendlies. It gives the three musketeers a squad of at least 20 players to choose from as we embark on what is sure to be an exciting campaign…. [DG]

Congrats Sue & Nige

13th August...A perfect summers day saw Swans boss Nigel Dyer at long last make an honest woman of the lovely Sue on Saturday. A great day was had by all, and what a pleasure to see so many Swans, past and present, joining in the celebrations. Not quite such a pleasure to see another member of the management team lurking around in doorways with his trousers round his ankles. Put me right off the sausage I was nibbling at the time.

Earlier Swans had enjoyed the best day of their pre-season campaign. The front side enjoyed a 2-1 win at Tunbridge Wells, the goals coming from Kris Bridle and an opposing defender, although Swans should have scored more, and hit the woodwork 4 times to boot. The II’s also notched a first victory, with an impressive 4-0 demolition of Mile Oak’s second string. Lets hope this is a good omen for the first team’s league opener against the same opposition on Wednesday night. [DG]

Six Days And Counting....

With two days to go until the start of the league season and less than a week until The Swans opening match, the sense of anticipation is building. This time next week, we will know whether we have kicked off the season with a win. Its been a very active pre-season and whilst a victory has eluded the new management team so far, theres been three draws and the defeats - with the exception of the 9-0 rout at the hands of an outstanding Wick outfit - have all been by the odd goal and all against opponents from the division above. Again putting the Wick match aside, Storrington have not failed to find the net in any of their pre-season matches and with Saturdays final warm up match at Tunbridge Wells, Chalaye, Dyer and Searles men have 90 minutes left to blow away any remaining cobwebs, get familiar with each other and the way of playing and get the fitness levels just right.

The management team probably still have a couple of questions to resolve amongst themselves as far as the starting line up for the first league match is concerned but any supporters who have followed Storrington through the pre-season will have a decent idea by now of the majority of players that will fill shirts 1 - 11 come 15th August. That first match is away at Mile Oak. The Swans also went to Mile Oak early last season and came away in the end with a comfortable win despite being under pressure for most of the first half. The Oaks got their own back later in the season though as they put four past Storrington at The Rec during the woeful run of spring results that dragged The Swans into a relegation scrap. There is a confident feel around the club at the moment and an expectation that we'll be battling it out at the right end of the table come spring 2008. Lets hope so.

Nigel Dyer won't be with the lads for the trip to Tunbridge Wells on Saturday. He has a slightly more important engagement.... his own wedding. Having been together for years and produced two lovely children, its great to see Nige and Sue tie the knot. Congratulations to you both, have a great day. [RN]

It's The Taking Part That Counts

8th August... Swans' latest pre-season friendly was a re-visit to Lyons Way to play Worthing Utd, with the Management Team finally having the opportunity to field a nearly full-strength squad, with Rob Norris being the only player missing through injury. A 2-1 defeat was the outcome with the Storrington goal coming courtesy of Grainger upfront in the second half. Positives to be taken from the game with fitness levels looking good and some strong performances, by Gary Elliott and Dean Leaver in particular. Saturday's test is an away trip to Kent Premier League outfit Tunbridge Wells.

The 2s go down 4-0 to an impressive looking Loxwood of County Three but good committment shown by Tucker's boys and goals that could have easily been avoided... Rumours that Storrington fielded a Yids lookalike are rife around the club! [JB]

Thirsty Work

6th August....fun in the sun at Billingshurst's smart new ground as Swans arrived for the latest pair of pre-season games...the front side played Div 3 Forest and produced another mixed performance in a 3-3 draw...goals from Grantham, Griffin and Bridle might have been supplemented by several others, but in the end one lapse too many enabled the Horsham outfit to snatch a late equaliser...An extremely youthful reserve side (discounting a goalkeeper who also looked suspiciously reluctant to use his hands) took on the hosts first XI, and despite a promising display from all of the teenage Swans, Billingshurst ran out 3-1 winners...consolation came by way of a fine strike from Matt Carter... The Tinker Men

30th July.... Various commitments meant that the Swans travelled to West Sussex Premier outfit Climping with a depleted squad. 9 players were missing from the friendly against Wick, which gave some new faces the chance to impress. A good start to the game saw Sam Witherden open the scoring for Storrington with a neat finish. However, a lacklustre end to the first half saw us concede two goals in quick succession to go into the break 2-1 down. A stern talking to at half time saw Storrington come out all guns blazing with Eamon Searle hitting the crossbar. New boy Grainger replaced Searle upfront and made the most of the opportunity by scoring on his debut. The game ended early after a nasty injury left Climping struggling for players. A better performance but goals still being given away too cheaply and the management team becoming increasingly frustrated by not having a full squad at their disposal.....meanwhile the remaining fixtures of what has become an extended pre-season campaign have been finalised - Swans will play Forest XI's on both 4th & 18th August and Worthing Utd again on the 7th, with a jaunt up to Tunbridge Wells on the 11th...this is because the SCFL have handed us days off on the first two saturdays of the season...the programme for much of the rest of August and September can now be found on the First Team page..... 27th July...Reality check for the Swans as they pick a bad time for a collective off day...Star studded Wick enjoy a 9-0 romp at Amberley as the blues misfire at both ends of the pitch...still, if you are going to get beat 9-0, you may as well do it in July - in the long run, this might be Swans most valuable night of the pre-season....

New Faces

25th July….the revolving door at the Rec has been pretty busy this summer. You’ll have noticed that we’ve removed the ‘Who’s Who’ page following the changes behind the scenes, and this will be reappearing in due course. The player profiles will also need a revamp, but for the time being may I introduce you now to the first clutch of new Swans:

Ben McKenzie - A sweeper in the best Beckenbauer mould, Ben signs after an impressive campaign for Div 1 Worthing Utd last season. Don’t be fooled by the boy-band looks – anyone with Ferring on their list of previous clubs has clearly been around a while, and this bloke will augment the small but select band of thirty-somethings in the first team squad. Can’t be all good though, as he declares Chalaye as his inspiration and mentor. Also says he loves his country music. I’m certain that he’s serious.

James Ericson - Versatile 29 year old Ez has appeared down the right flank in the friendlies to date, but with a great engine and two good feet he will be invaluable in pretty much any position. Key member of the successful Revenue & Azzurri sides in Worthing in recent years, and arrives at the Rec keen for more success. In a recent interview, the great Pele stated his claim to fame as the time he shook Ez’s hand. And it has to be said, Storrington needs another Spurs fan like a fish needs a bicycle.

Aaron Meehan - All action midfield man set to become the Stevie Gerrard of the County League, Swans are delighted to have 20-year-old Aaron after he impressed with Div 1 Wick last term. Youth team players are advised against bringing their girlfriends to club nights though, as this monster loves the Karma Sutra, names Ron Jeremy as his hero, and I’ll leave you to guess what he put for ‘position’ on his player profile form. Clearly has a sensitive side too – naming ‘Spice World’ as his favourite film. Bless.

Stewart Day - Most Swans fans will be familiar with Stewart from his injury-interrupted 05/06 campaign at the Rec. Returned to Midhurst to have a big impact on their successful season last year, but his re-emergence is a sign of Swans ambition this time around. A real no-nonsense defender (especially in training), capable of getting on the wrong side of the officials even when not playing. His involvement in the infamous ‘teenage linesman’s shorts’ incident in 2005 is a prime example. The obvious heir to Ben Reilly’s noisy nutter throne, at 22 Dayo is showing no signs of maturity. Good to have him back.

Swans To Hit The Road In The Cups

23rd July...Swans face a challenge if they are to improve their woeful cup form of the last year or two. Selsey ended our interest in the Senior Cup at the first hurdle last term, and this time stand in the way in both the RUR and the John O'Hara, with either side enjoying home advantage once each. Lady Luck gave Swans short shrift in the Div 2 Cup draw - firstly, we are one of only four teams forced to play an extra round, secondly, that game is a long haul to visit our friends at Westfield (a jolly on a minibus would make this more than worthwhile, hint hint), and finally, we came out of the hat last in the draw, meaning that it would be away ties all the way to the final should Swans progress. No complaints in the Senior Cup though. A tough first round battle at Sidlesham is certainly no picnic, but the prize for the winners is a high profile trip to Ryman League Burgess Hill.

Meanwhile, 'twas an interesting and valuable afternoon on Saturday at Worthing Utd's much improved Lyons Way home. The visitors had several good chances to win the first game, but in the end were grateful for Aaron Meehan's late penalty that secured a 2-2 draw. Swans had desrvedly led at the break through Eamonn Searle's close range finish following a corner, but a slow start to the second half saw them go behind after a clinical double from United's Gavin Jones. Later, a well taken Dave Tidman brace put Swans in charge of the second match, only for them to fade late in the game and succumb to a 4-2 defeat. New boss Alan Tucker would have been encouraged though, by the effort shown by what was largely a very young side. And his own forty yard strike that cannoned back off the upright was nearly the stuff of dreams - if he can reproduce that on a regular basis he will truly be leading by example. Especially if he can do it at the right end.

Slippery Rhodes

18th July...Swans fans had their first opportunity to run the rule over a new look team at Amberley last night, as ambitious East Preston provided the opposition for the opening friendly. Both sides played some good stuff in a goalless first half, before James Rhodes eased EP into a two goal lead after Swans changed half their side at the break. The blues rallied in the last quarter of an hour, Sam Witherden's neat finish capping a fine display from the young winger, and the same player had a good chance to equalise late on. It ended 2-1, and proved a valuable exercise for both teams. Next on the agenda is a double header with Worthing Utd at Lyons Way this Saturday. Peakey is mooted to be appearing at some point during the proceedings, which has nothing to do with the barbecue we have been promised after the game....

Office Skivers Strike Again

16th July....Swans busiest close season for years has provoked unprecedented summer interest in the website...or perhaps it's just been too wet to go outdoors....we're usually in hibernation in between May and August, but over 2000 visitors made June'07 our busiest month ever! Shame i've done bugger all in the way of updates really....

There Goes Summer

25th June.... put those cricket whites away, you've had yer 7 weeks off, and now its time for football again! On Saturday (30th) Swans kick-off their preparations for 2007/08 with an 'in-house' game at the Rec....this will be followed by tuesday and thursday (and occasional saturday! aaarrgghh!) training through July, before the campaign gets underway on 11th August... friendlies against East Preston and Worthing Utd are scheduled so far, with a couple more to follow...the new management trio have been meticulous in their planning of the pre-season period, and Swans fans can also expect several new faces in the squad (watch this space), so the next few weeks should be a fascinating time for all concerned......

New Management Team Announced

It is with pleasure and great anticipation that Storrington FC have announced the appointment of a new management team. Nigel Dyer, Jon Chalaye and Eamonn Searle will take the helm with immediate effect. All three are former Swans players with Nigel Dyer having also managed the reserves for the previous three seasons.

One of their first acts as the new management team was to appoint Alan Tucker as reserve team manager. Alan has been at the club for a decade and is expected to carry on in a playing capacity as well as running the reserves.

More information will follow but for now we welcome them all (back) to the club and wish them well for the 2007/8 season.

End Of An Era

The Russell Penticost era has been successful, unpredictable, strange and most of all enjoyable. Here Rob Norris, Russ's skipper throughout this time, casts his eye over the progress of the Swans since that fateful day in June 2002 when Russell took up the reins:

Russell Penticost's tenure as manager at Storrington has come to an end. After five seasons, Russ has parted company with the club in what is probably best described as being by mutual consent. He follows his former assistant Trevor Paske out of the door, Trevor having resigned a couple of months ago. The clubs committee feel they need a fresh slant on things after failing to kick on in the two years since the club returned to senior football and Russell himself is believed to feel that the changes that he would need to make to take the club to the next level are beyond the boundaries of what he would be permitted to do by the club. The direction in which the club is going to go next should become clearer in the coming weeks and months but for now, lets take the opportunity to review the Penticost and Paske reign.

The two P's took over as first team manager and assistant at The Recreation Ground in the summer of 2002 in the wake of the clubs relegation out of senior football down to Division 3. Russell and Trevor set out with a three year plan to get the club back into senior football and began by bringing in a number of players that they were familiar with from their involvement at Horsham YMCA, while Storrington stalwarts Paul Smith, Nigel Dyer, Richard Hack, Alan Tucker, Matt Bridle and captain Rob Norris provided the backbone of the side. The first season was a story of inconsistency. Over the winter, a run of only 1 defeat in 16 matches saw the Swans high up the league and into 3 semi-finals. But a substantial fixture backlog, paired with the handicap of playing every game between September and April away from home during the building of the new clubhouse, saw only 3 wins in the next 16. Swans finished a disappointing 12th, but consolation came in the form of the Vernon-Wentworth Cup, when Ben Reilly’s extra time winner brought some welcome silverware. Summer 2003 saw further reinforcements arrive. Penticost had lured Dan Griffin to The Recreation Ground in his first season and used the ex-Lancing mans connections to bring in the likes of Andy Long, Martin Gray, Jon Simpson and Andy Wilby, all of whom would remain with the club throughout the Penticost reign. After a nightmare start that brought just 2 points from the opening 6 games, Swans showed consistent form for the remainder, losing only 3 of the last 20 league fixtures. They finished 5th, 6 points shy of the promotion frame, and were involved on a memorable final day – Ifield needed only a draw at the Rec to go up, but Swans 2-1 victory sent the watching St Francis Rangers up in their place. There was a feeling that Penticost and Paske were now close to having a side that could really push for promotion in the 2004/5 season. That feeling was justified as the club went on an amazing run, which saw them remain unbeaten in league action until the spring as well as making a fifth cup semi final in 3 years. The Division 3 title was won with three matches to spare with a resounding 4-1 victory at Uckfield and Russell and Trevor had delivered on their commitment to get the club promoted within three seasons.

A tight knit team spirit had taken 3 years to evolve – Russ used just 17 players in his league starting XI during the promotion campaign, and on reflection, perhaps this side could have gone further – as it was, half that squad had departed within a few months. Penticost made a number of strong additions to the squad that had conquered Division 3 as Shaun Hourigan came in from Steyning (he was followed by Tom Pickford and James Davis half way through the season) and Dan White and Stuart Day arrived from Midhurst, although the contribution of the latter was limited by a number of injury problems. Steve Tasker, Phil Awcock, Ross McClorry, Ben Shelford and Simon Price left the club and failure to get the best out of the highly talented but enigmatic Price will probably be one of Russells regrets from his time at The Recreation Ground. After an excellent start, first round exits in all cup competitions and a lower mid table finish meant it was probably fair to say that 2005-6 was a slightly disappointing season especially considering the way in which a lot of promoted clubs kick on in their first season in a higher division of the County League.

Penticosts summer transfer activity was limited with more players going out of the revolving door than coming in. Hourigan, Davis and Pickford returned to Steyning, Day to Midhurst and Dan White packed up football at this level to concentrate on his career. Paul Smith called time on his football days and Neil Richardson never returned for pre-season training. Chris Watton missed the majority of the season having started university, Alan Tucker extended his summer break up to his September wedding and honeymoon and was then blighted by back problems for a lot of the season and Adam Palmer drifted away. On the upside, Gary Elliott returned to the club as first choice keeper and Ramin Jarvand chose Storrington as the location for his return to football after a serious knee injury. Tom Bradshaw emerged from the youth team as a real prospect and Kris Bridle, Dean Leaver and Martin Gray all returned to the first team squad. In terms of quality and experience at this level, it was more out than in though and that was probably significant in what became something of a struggle as the season wore on. The early season form was encouraging as The Swans hit the top in August but it couldn't be maintained and despite the occasional impressive result -the highlight being consecutive away wins at East Grinstead and Westfield- the trend was generally a downward one. However, nobody really saw the relegation dog fight coming until it was too late and it took a an excellent last day victory over Midhurst in what turned out to be Penticosts last match to be sure of safety. It was fitting that Russell ended with a win and on the high generated from avoiding relegation. Its a shame that his side were never able to move to the next level and challenge at the top end of Division 2 but there can be no question that he leaves the club in a significantly better state than he joined it.

On the field, Russ took over at a time where the club had just been relegated and was in desperate need of new faces and new impetus. He took the club back into senior football and leaves the club having guided them to safety and another crack at senior level next season. Back in 2002, the reserve team were perennial strugglers, rarely finishing outside of the bottom two or three. The last two seasons have seen them lift the reserve section cup and finish second and seventh in the league under Nigel Dyers leadership. The third team was defunct when Russell and Trevor joined the club and have reformed, enjoyed two promotions and victory in the Tony Kopp cup. There had been no youth team since the mid nineties when Russ and Trev took the helm but we have now had a youth team for the last three seasons with Chris Watton and Tom Bradshaw being the most notable among several graduates from the youth ranks to the first team. A lot of people deserve credit for the progress that all four teams have made in the last five years but the enthusiasm, commitment and hard work that Russell has put in has been at the forefront of a lot of the good that has been achieved.

Russell and Gill weren't found wanting away from the playing side either. Gills pre-match, half time and post match refreshments and food for the players, officials, spectators and anybody else that happened to be passing the ground are the envy of just about every other County League club. Washing the kit every week and ferrying players all over the place after matches and social events are just a couple more of the many off field chores that Gill and Russell performed and it can only be hoped that people will step into the various voids that their leaving will create.

I think the honest consensus from all parties, Penticost and Paske included would be that they had probably taken things as far as they could with this crop of players and after five thoroughly enjoyable and successful years for the club in general, the time was right to go. Wherever Russell may end up, all at Storrington wish him well. We may even come up against him some time in the future.

16th May....the major news from saturdays end of season bash was not entirely unexpected....after a 5-year tenure, Russell Penticost is no longer the manager of Storrington Football Club. There have been highs and lows, and there has been a lot of fun, and we will look back on the period with a suitable tribute shortly. Of course, this also marks the end of Gill's involvement, and how they will both be missed. 101 thankless jobs will now need others to perform them....it was a fitting send off on saturday, full of laughter and tears, and much debauchery after the thirds were presented with the league shield following their win at Cowfold earlier in the day. The party started the moment Jez Scholes (yes, JEZ SCHOLES) sealed the game, and sparked a pitch invasion, by belting home a 20 yard free-kick (I know. If i hadn't seen it with my own eyes i wouldn't believe it either. Nice one Jezza).... youngsters Gary Elliott and Tom Bradshaw picked up player of the year awards for the front side. Both have coped well in difficult times, both have become shoe-in first XI picks, and both will be vital players in the next Swans chapter. Super Sam Witherden and Andy Beaumont were the deserved recipients in the Reserves, while all i can remember about Joe's 3rd XI speech is him abusing his entire squad. I'm sure they deserved it.....

Better Get This Party Started

9th May...A Concert Party? Well Hurrah! There'll be plenty to celebrate at Saturday's end of season bash as fronts and III's achieve their contrasting objectives. A 3-1 home win over Midhurst ensures Div 2 safety for Penticost's men, with the kind of performance that makes you wonder what they're doing down there in the first place. BBH go down at Seaford to finish in the second relegation slot, while Swans sneak above Crawley Down to end in 15th. Meanwhile, the III's cap a fine campaign with a 4-2 win at a strong Fittleworth. Dan 'Graham Roberts' Barrett and Kieran 'John Chiedozie' Leogue bag a brace each to secure the title. There might be fun & frolics in store as they round off the season with a trip to Cowfold to kick off Saturday's festivities...

Barn Dance

3rd May....Glory at the Hormare on Tuesday as the III's outplay title rivals Barnham. Twinkletoes wingers Kieran Leogue and Duncan McLeod are the architects as a healthy crowd roars the boys on to a 3-1 victory. And only 16 footballs were lost on the night as well. One more point will guarantee the WSLD4n championship.

Sink Or Swim?

18th April…Swans enter the final fortnight of the season with a nail-biting ride in store. From a position in the top half as recently as the beginning of March, a run of 2 points out of 27 puts them deep in the mire. Three home games will decide their fate, starting with Westfield on Saturday – and the team news makes frightening reading……
Rob Norris (hamstring) – missed last 3, could miss the rest
Jon Simpson (knee) – struggling to make Saturday
Martin Gray (blisters) – you do not want to see them. Struggling for Saturday.
Chris Watton (hamstring) – doubtful for Saturday. Then returns to college in Bristol.
Tom Bradshaw (ankle) – hopeful for Saturday, should return thereafter anyway.
Dan Griffin (thigh) – only completed 2 of last 7, but should be fit.

Meanwhile, the 3rds still have everything to play for, for the right reasons as they chase the WSLD4 title. A fully fit squad looks to make up 9 points on leaders Barnham, with 3 games in hand, after last weeks 7 goal tonking of Horsham Olympic. No such stress for the II’s or U18’s though, as both play out their last couple of games secure in mid-table.

Nine Point Penalty

1st April....as if we didn't have enough problems!...Swans find themselves plunged into the relegation mire as a result of a nine point deduction from the county league. It would appear that a series of irregular payments to players has attracted the league's attention, and administration procedures on transfer dealings have been called into question. A boost for Swans rivals at the wrong end of the table, but another blow for Swans hopes of maintaining their senior status....

29th March...More gloom & doom i'm afraid after a nondescript defeat to Mile Oak...i wasn't going to bother with a match report for this one, but i think Rob's managed to find something to say about it...and Shipley turn the tables on a strong 3rd XI, reversing last weeks 3-1 scoreline to throw the WSLD4s promotion race wide open...come on everyone, this is no good! lets win matches and be happy!

I'll Get You Butler

20th March...Russell has added much-needed depth to a rapidly shrinking squad with the signing of Steve Blake. Blakey flattered to deceive somewhat in his previous spell at the club in 2005, but was in impressive form for division 1 Ringmer this season, before switching back to Worthing League football after Xmas. Skilful and verstile with an eye for goal, the spiky haired one went straight into the side for the game at Wealden on Saturday.

19th March……an 8-goal thriller at The Oaks as another bare-bones squad lose out to Wealden…Ramin’s heads his 8th of the season, while Griff takes his recent tally to 6 in 5 games….a rather more low-key affair at the Rec, but the reserves claim a point with a 1-1 draw against St Francis, goalscorer unknown as yet…III’s score a significant win against promtion rivals Shipley, unlikely poachers McCaig & Barrett upstaging Peakey in the 3-1 triumph…U18’s impressive on Sunday, strolling to a 4-1 victory over Selsey……

Heath Grief

12th March…After becoming the first team to win at Westfield, the writing was on the wall when Broadbridge Heath arrived at the Rec without an away win all season…typically Swans did it in style, crashing to their heaviest defeat of the campaign….it was a bad day all round, as Loxwood curtailed the III’s unbeaten league record…Friday night was better though, as an injury time equaliser from Matt Palmer – yes, that’s Matt Palmer – gave the II’s a deserved share of the spoils in a 6-goal thriller at Wick………

Steve Leaves

27th February...Winger Steve Tasker has accepted an approach from Division Three new-boys Loxwood, where he will link up again with former Forest coach Terry Eames. After a bright start to the season, the demands of senior football paired with those of a young family became hard to juggle, but i have no doubt that Steve will be a big asset for the Magpies. In two spells Steve made 80 appearances for the Swans, scoring 20 goals. Good luck mate.

Permission Granted

21st February…update….crumbs, sorry to have neglected this page for so long. It’s been such a rotten, stop-start winter for football that enthusiasm has been at something of a premium. When we have managed to get out on the field it hasn’t been that great either. the front side have slipped down the league, the reserves have picked up a little bit, but the III’s are still pushing for league honours. The big battle with Barnham III’s is at the Hormare on Saturday, kick off 2pm. But what has really got me going again is yesterdays meeting of Horsham District Council, when planning permission was granted for floodlights at the Rec! Terrific news, and every football person in the village owes a debt of gratitude to Nigel Dyer, Steve Good, Tim Watton, Matt Bridle and all the committee. There is still much more to do of course, so keep your eyes peeled on this website for how you can do your bit to help.

Prize New Year Quiz For All Swans!!

8th January....Ok you crazy kids here is the deal. The auspicious appointment of Russell Penticost as manager of the Swans was nearly five years ago (time flies when you’re having fun eh?), and last month the great man selected his 100th different player to proudly pull on the blue jersey. The question is – how many of that century of soccer legends can you put a name to??

Veteran stalwarts, one-game wonders, perennial subs, they are all included on the list. Mr Chairman has promised (haven’t you Malc) a modest prize for the superfan that can get the most so have a go! Oh Come All Ye Faithful

3rd January....Nearly 100 fans at the Rec twice in four days...unheard of!...as Swans take an acceptable 3 Xmas points...a win and a loss, followed by a predictable postponement (3 home games in a week...not very bright scheduling by somebody) was ok at a time of year where Swans generally struggle to shift their attention away from all the food, booze and prezzies....there was a win in there somewhere for the 3rds as well, and i believe a rare clean sheet for Ian 'Grobbelaar' Arthur...then last night the II's shook off 6 weeks of rust, and the U18's tuned up for sunday's big cup tie at Oakwood (see you all there?), with a very worthwhile practice match on the astro at Broadbridge Heath..the youngsters (plus a highly inconspicuous Mitten) came out on top thanks to a comedy o.g and a high class Tasker missed penalty...:O)

Just Seventeen

20th December….Yet another Peakey brace, taking his tally to 17, and something similar from ‘Easy’ Streeter keeps the 3rds 100% league record going as Cowfold Reserves are bashed 6-3 at the Hormare….meanwhile, a maiden senior goal for Richard Ayres earns a useful point for the front side at Sidlesham…Pam becomes the first player to score for all 3 XI’s in the same season since Keith Dalmon in 1954….So I now bid you happy Xmas from all at Swanweb. Forgive me if updates are a bit thin on the ground over the next fortnight, blame Rob he’s the one on honeymoon…….

Cygnets provide a glimpse into the future

11th December...With the reserves and 3rds both postponed again, the first team enjoyed some good support as they made it two consecutive wins for the first time since August. Some of the clubs younger players stepped up to the plate - Ramin Jarvand (23) produced an exemplary performance of forward play, the goals came from Paul Walshe (18) and Dave Cook (22) with Richard Ayres (22) turning in an eye catching performance in centre midfield. 18 year old Tom Bradshaw carried on from his impressive showing at Broadbridge Heath and Gary Elliot (21) held the visitors at bay with a string of great saves as they piled on the pressure during the second half. The future's looking brighter for The Swans.

Happy Birthday To Us

22nd November ……. Swans.Com is 2 years old today! From humble beginnings we now rumble along with 20,000 odd visitors a year. A mighty thank you to all those involved, from our array of witty contributors, through the skilled camera men & women, to the brains trust that spans the county emailing each other intriguing ideas when they should be working. The result is a site that is the envy of the County League. Long may it continue!

Super Saturday

21st November …… An all round good day. First Peakey bags a hat trick at the Hormare as the III’s come from behind twice to dump Holbrook 6-2….a Stevie D miss from 6 inches provides the other highlight…..then over the fence the II’s give Steyning the right old run-around….neat finishes from Gavaldo & Sam sandwich a cracker from Mr Wilby in a 3-0 romp….and the front side halt their run of defeats by not having a game :)

Swans In The Dark

9th November.....Bad news from the recent local council meeting, as Swans seek permission to erect the floodlights they will need to maintain senior status. Landowners Storrington & Sullington Parish Council have decided that they do not want any further development of the football ground. Councillor Albert Mullard told the County Times “The football club has started to get too big and I don’t know where it is going to stop if they are successful”. A curious objection to say the least, and one that Swans can only hope might be reconsidered a little more carefully, before Horsham District Council decide whether or not the application can be given the green light.
